美国电影艺术与科学学院（AMPAS）今天公布了第85届奥斯卡最佳歌曲奖候选名单，总共有75首歌曲入围，比去年39首的数量回升了不少。学院音乐分支的评委们将会收到这份名单和歌曲片段的DVD，在观看后选出不超过5首歌曲，并依据自己喜好排序。最终将有五首歌曲获得提名。
近年来，奥斯卡对最佳歌曲的评选十分挑剔和苛刻，设置了很高的门槛，结果让许多深受观众欢迎的歌曲都无缘评选。这也导致最佳歌曲奖日益成为一个“鸡肋”，提名歌曲少、好听得不多、流传也不广已经成为常态。特别是去年最佳歌曲入围和提名数均再创新低：只有39首歌曲符合评比资格，最终只有2首歌曲获得提名。这引发了很多人的质疑。
因此今年学院再次对歌曲奖评选方式作出改革，取消了打分制，采取了与最佳影片相同的投票计票方式，同时将提名名额固定为五首。
