谷歌的公司理念是“不作恶”，但是这一点却没能够蒙蔽“全球最具道德规范公司”的评定机构。今年全球著名思想库美国道德村协会（Ethisphere Institute）将微软列入了“110个全球最具道德规范公司”榜单。但是谷歌榜上无名，另外，苹果和Facebook也都没能上榜。
有3000多家公司申请入榜，道德村协会根据他们的历史、违规监管、可持续业务实践以及同行提名等因素来分级确定他们能否上榜。
在觉察到反垄断审查给自身带来很多负面影响之后，微软从本世纪初开始大力推行“企业公民 (corporate citizenship)”理念。自那时起微软已经向非盈利组织捐赠了大笔资金，并在经济发展领域有很多投资，还强化了其内部报告程序。微软所做的这些确保了入围今年的“全球最具道德规范公司”榜单。
任何一家在过去五年当中遇到严重法律上麻烦的公司都会被自动从榜单上踢出，也就是说仅欧盟的反垄断审查已经让谷歌入围无望了。
其他入围“全球最具道德规范公司”榜单的科技公司还包括：Adobe、思科、eBay、Salesforce以及Symantec。奇怪的是Zappos也上榜了，而2009年就已经收购Zappos的亚马逊却没能上榜。
